It covers claims made by Dr. Mark Liponis, author of The Hunter/Farmer Diet Solution, that how much we weighed at birth influences how we carry our weight and what we need to do to lose excess weight.
Dr. Liponis says we all fall into one of two body types: the hunter type or the farmer type.
Hunter body types:
Weighed less than 7 pounds at birth
Store fat in the belly and chest
Stay thin in the legs and butt
Are at higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol problems and cancer
Need a high-protein, low-glycemic diet to lose weight
Should skip breakfast
Should eat dessert and drink pomegranate juice
Benefit from chromium supplements
Should try using unbleached coffee filters for cholesterol
Farmer body types:
Weighed 7 to 10 pounds at birth
Store weight in the butt, hips, and thighs
Gain weight in the bottom as they get older
Have a smaller waist
Suffer from mechanical issues like varicose veins and joint problems
Need to graze on 5 small meals
Should fuel with whole grain carbs while avoiding dairy
Benefit from a late-night snack
Should supplement with DIM (Diindolymethane)
Should invest in compression socks for circulation
Our take on this approach:
We all want to find the secret bullet that will make losing weight and getting healthy as easy as possible. Squeezing weight loss to fit into a convenient two-sided model works well when you’re trying to sell books, but real people are more complicated than that.
We encourage you to eat a wide variety of whole, healthy, fresh foods that make you feel good.
If a food makes you feel bad, don’t eat it. Drink plenty of water.
Get plenty of sleep and regular exercise. And don’t buy into fad diets or gurus who promise that they have the secret to weight loss that only they’ve been able to uncover.
Value your health, strength, and wellness above being someone else’s version of attractive.
Not only will you feel better, inside and out, but you’ll be modeling a version of life that other people will want to emulate, and the message of health will spread through generations.
